I had the pleasure to work with Forum for the Future on a carbon management plan for one of their major ICT partners. Initially, we did not have much actual or accurate data for preparing a carbon map, so I suggested we try to visualise the sources of their emissions and show their ranges, scale and perspective. I wanted to show order of magnitude, not precise numbers at this point, so we could frame the discussion towards what is really important for the client.

The map was, overall, extremely helpful for the discussion and project progress. The client called it “eye-opening” and it indeed influenced the conversation towards thinking about the embedded emissions in their supply chain and the opportunities within the thousands people they reach every day.

The only precaution lesson we learned was that perceiving an infographic as a final polished product could slow the progress, as discussion could move into minor details rather than the bigger picture.
